Counterclaims
"Who would side with animal cruelty?" is probably what you just asked yourself.
A poll was held on this website to see how many people thought animal cruelty laws should be harsher. Most people voted yes and left comments, but there was only one comment for the opposing side...
"No we should have lax laws for animal abuse. There are many ill and hurting people all over the world. A person is a much more important member of the world than an animal. Especially in a civilazation of Humans, a human must be of most importance. Animals are just there for us and to do whatever we want to do with them. The government is making too many harsh laws."
Analyzing And Arguing
Of course, we disagreed with their claim. So, here's what we have to say about it.
“Animals are just there for us to do whatever we want to do with them.”
This quote is saying that it is okay to abuse, hurt, or neglect an animal like they don't have feelings. |
“There are many ill and hurting people all over the world.”
This line suggests that the focus should be on hurting humans rather than animals. I agree that humans are important and should be given the food, water, and kind treatment they deserve, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t help out animals as well. We aren’t pulling attention away from humans by making animal cruelty laws, we are giving new attention to animals while still letting the attention on humans remain. |
“The government is making too many harsh laws.”
A lot more people think that the law should be harsher than it is now and they do not have reasons why it is already “too harsh" |
“A person is a much more important member of the world than an animal.”
It’s true that humans are more intelligent than most of the animals in the world, but all animals have a purpose and are very important to people and the earth. Animals also do very little to harm the world, whereas humans do a lot. |
“Animals are just there for us and to do whatever we want to do with them.”
Animals have many more purposes than to be used by humans. Some help the environment, others are trying to survive as a species just as humans are. If humans ceased to exist, animals would still be alive, because it is not their sole purpose to be used by us. Also, you shouldn’t be cruel to animals no matter how unimportant you believe they are. They are living creatures with feelings; they don’t deserve to be treated so harshly because you think they are alive to be your toy. |
“Especially in a civilazation of Humans, a human must be of most importance.”
Yes, in a civilization of humans, humans are important. However, it is wrong to belittle animals just because humans are supposedly the most important species. |
The "Yes" Side
There were many more comments for the yes side than the no side, so here are some of the comments from the people who voted yes on the poll:
"Animals are just like humans. They are born the same way and they grow up the same way. Animals are sharing the world with us humans."
"We should not only have tougher animal abuse laws, but also crack down on the enforcement of them. If more people patroled the streets looking for offenders, many animals would be safer."
"We need more harher punishments not just here in the U.S.A but in the world. Everyday some where on this planet there is an animal in need."
